Financial Questions
What will be your sources of income to pay your house charges? Please explain:
What is your means of support? (please approximate in percentages amongst family, self, and financial aid/loans)
Co-op houses are owned by Student Housing Cooperative, Inc. (SHC). SHC pays mortgages, taxes, and insurance. When you sign a contract, you become a part owner of SHC. As a member/owner, you will be part of the decision making process directly at your house, and by house representation on the SHC Board of Directors. These houses are not owned or managed by Michigan State University or any management company. Therefore, to operate our houses, each member works 3-5 hours per week (the exact amount is determined by each individual house). Your work can be scheduled when you do not have classes or job commitments. To better understand our system, it is suggested that you read your house's constitution, SHC Articles of Incorporation, By-Laws, and the Code of Operations. For further information, check with your house's Board Representative, or with the SHC Office. PLEASE NOTE: In order for your contract to be valid, all house shares and dues must be paid in full at the SHC office.
